Tirupati Brief Report On The Activities Of S.V.Digital Library"
ASri Balaji Institute of Surgery, Research and Rehabilitation for the Disabled (BIRRD) Trust is a premier medical institute, that treat patients suffering from polio mellitus, cerebral palsy, congenital anomalies, spinal injuries, and the orthopedically handicapped. It comprises and centrally air-conditioned hospital with the latest medical equipment.

BIRRD makes used of state-of-the-art medical technology and provides services to the poor, at no cost. It also distributes artificial limbs, calipers and aids, free of cost, to the needy and the poor. Food and medicines are supplied free of cost. TTD accepts generous contributions from the philanthropists to this reputed medical institute, to meet the expenses of inpatients undergoing medication in the BIRRD.

The T.T.D. – Specified Authority in its Resolution No No.166, dt.23.06.2001 has resolved to establish S.V. Digital Library of T.T.D. in association with Universal Digital Library and Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, U.S.A. with a view to digitize the rare and ancients books, scriptures, palm leaves to safeguard the cultural heritage and preservation of age old books, scriptures etc.,

Accordingly the Centre at Tirupati has digitized the following books available in and around Tirupati. All the books available at these centers were completed.

Further, books are being brought from various places for digitations at Tirupati center. Nearly 5,000 books related to 18 th century of Victoria Library, Machalipatnam are digitized. Books at Vardamana Samajam, Nellore are being brought to Tirupati and digitized.

New Center



The Management has agreed to establish a sub-centre at Rajahmundry to digitize the books available in and around Rajahmundry. Nearly 20,000 books are expected to digitize.
Requests were also received from PCR College, Kakinada, which is 120 years old college. Here nearly 3,000 books are expected to digitize. The centre has digitized books of Vivekananda College, Hyderabad which are around 5,000 Nos., Dr. Akkineni Nageswara Rao College, Gudivada has requested to digitize their books and Palm leaves available in their college.
Sub-centers Out Side Tirupati:



Nearly 20,000 books of Sanskrit version were digitized at Sri Kuppuswamy Sastry Institute, Mylapore.
Here it is proudly to mention that all the editions of CHANDAMAMA in 13 languages are being digitized by establishing required number of scanners and computers. Nearly 3.00 lakh pages are expected to digitize. This is a great achievement for T.T.D.
The Government of Tamilnadu vide G.O. (1D) No.272, dated: 13.09.2006 has requested the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’s S.V. Digital Library to digitize the books available in Connermara Public Library, Chennai which are published prior to 1930. They have informed that nearly 1,00,000 books available in Connermara Public Public Library, Chennai.
The Government of Tamilnadu vide G.O. (1D) No.75, School Education (K1) Department, dated: 8.3.2007 has requested the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’s S.V. Digital Library to digitize the books available in Requests were received from Thanjavur Maharaja Serfoji’s Sarasvati Mahal Library, Thanjavur,
 the famous library – It is quite appreciable that they are very much interested to entrust the digitations to T.T.D.
Request was received from Sarasvathi Mahal Library, Tiruvavaduthurai Adheenam, Tiruvavaduthurai, Nagapattinam District – where 75,000 books are available for digitations. Further, the said library is providing Air-conditioned accommodation for digitations.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams is bearing all the expenses in digitisations. Further, all the books are being sent to the individual/institutions, if any damage caused to the books, T.T.D. is taking up the responsibility to bound the same and handing over safely to them.

All the individuals/Institutions are being supply with C.D. of the scanned books, which are meant for digitations. At present nearly 60,000 books were scanned and all the books were kept in web for accessing. www.ulib.org.
Works to be Taken up:



The management has accorded permission to edit and digitize all the Annamacharya Samkeertanas available in S.V. Musuem, TTD TIrupati in Copper plates in association with Prof. Raj Reddy, Carnegie Mellon University.
It is decided to start an exclusively project for digitizing the palm leaves available in and around the State of Andhra Pradesh. The connected file is under circulation and action will be taken on approval of the same.
