NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (N.S.S)

 

Introduction

Launched in the Mahatma Gandhi Centenary year 1969 as a student youth service programme, National Service Scheme (NSS) throughout the country aims at arousing social consciousness of the youth, with an overall objective of personality development of the student through community service.  In S. V. Arts College for Men, NSS was started in the same year on September 24th, 1969 with two units and each unit consisting of 100 students.

            The Programmes are divided into regular activities in the College campus and special camps outside the campus particularly community service of 10 days duration, in a year.

Organization

 

            National level NSS Head Quarters located at Delhi, is under the control of the Youth Affairs & Sports wing of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.  Its state head quarters are at Hyderabad with 15 regional centers including the one at Tirupati.  Each one of these regional centers is headed by a Deputy or Assistant Programme Advisor / Liaison Officer who monitors its activities.

Since 1969, 12 Faculty members acted as N S S Programme Officers. At present
Sri C. Ramesh, Lecturer in Botany and Sri P. Bhaskar, Lecturer in History are the NSS Programme officers.

   Programmes Conducted by the NSS Unit

 

*      Tree plantation programmes

More than one lakh trees were planted

*      Orissa Relief Fund

Distributed the fund, cloths and material at Bhuvaneswar, Orissa, 20 Volunteers participated in the relief work at Bhuvaneswar.

*      Gujarat Earth Quake Relief Fund

*      JanmaBhoomi Program

Each batch consisting of 200 volunteers attended 5 programmes between Jan 1995 and 2005 at Kuppam, Chittoor Dist. Former Chief Minister
Sri N Chandrababu Naidu appreciated the work of NSS Volunteers of
S V Arts College for Men.

*      Srivari Brahmotsavams, Srivari Seva

Participate in Srivari Brahmotsavams and Srivari Seva regularly.

*      S V Arts College for Men, Tirupati, NSS Unit is also a member in Blood Donor society in S V University, N S S Wing.

*      Every year on Blood Donors day, on requirement of Blood for patients or during an emergency, volunteers come forward to donate blood.

*      Whenever there is an AIDS Awareness programme, NSS volunteers participate and educate rural villagers regarding AIDS.

*      NSS programme officer Sri C. Ramesh has been appointed as Chittoor Dist.
Co-Ordinator for “ College Talk Aids Programme”.

*      Under Youth Leadership programme more than 600 volunteers were trained to develop their personality and leadership.

*      Sri S Vanadeep, N S S Volunteer of the college attended the Youth Parliament at Delhi in 2004

*      Under Water shed program 100 NSS Volunteers renovated a check dam in S V University in2002.

*      NSS Volunteers participated in District, University and State level youth festivals and won prizes in Quiz, Debate and Group Singing Competitions

 


NATIONAL CADET CORPS (N.C.C.)

 

            National Cadet Corps (N.C.C.) was instituted in Andhra Pradesh when it was a part of erstwhile composite Madras State. In 1956 on reorganization of the State the then existing NCC units were organized with an independent Circle Head Quarters for the new state of Andhra Pradesh, which was designated as HQ 12 Circle Cadet Corps. This was re-designated as Directorate in 1962. Initially this Directorate was established for nine Group Head Quarters located at Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati, Kurnool and Warangal.

            Tirupati Group Head Quarters has 3 units, one each at Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor and 5 units at Tirupati. S. V. Arts College for Men is having an Army Wing, Air Wing and R. V. Wing (recently established). The three units are supervised by the following lecturers.

*      Mr. N Hari Prasad II B.Sc, Mr. C Naveen II B.Sc, Mr. B Maheswara Reddy II B.Sc and Mr. B Kumar II B.Sc have been selected for pre Republic day celebrations 2006 at New Delhi.

*      Mr. N Hari Prasad II B.Sc has been adjudged for Best Turnout and Smartness at Secunderabad in Pre RD Camp in Oct 2005 and awarded Chief Minister’s Medal.

*      5 Cadets of the Air Wing and 1 Cadet of the Army Wing were selected for the Republic Day Celebrations held at New Delhi in January 2005.

*      SUO Mr. P. Manikantan participated in R.D.C. at New Delhi in January 2004.

*      SUO Mr. P. Mani Kantan acted as Parade Commander for NCC Day Celebrations held at Tirupati (2005) and was adjudged as the Best Cadet.

*      The College hosted one National Integration Camp and two combined annual training camps.

*      NCC Cadets (160 members) participate in blood donation, voluntarily on various occasions like NCC Day, AIDS Day, and Youth Day.

*      Cadets participate in various rallies organized during AIDS Day, Anti Corruption Day, Akshar Dhyan Day etc to bring awareness among the public.

*      Voluntary service is extended by the candidates in Srivari Seva at Tirumala and on occasions like Bramhotsavam and other festive days.


ROVER SCOUTS

 

S V Arts College for Men, Tirupati students Rover Scouts unit was inaugurated on 26-08-2004 in the department of Physical Education. Nearly 100 students were selected to participate in different savas of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala Hills and also for other programmes.

 

Rover Scouts render the following services.

*      Srivari Brahmothsavam

*      Vaikunta Ekadasi

*      January 1st

*      Srivari Service Camps During Summer Vacation.

*      Ugadi Festival Day etc.,

For each Seva camp 30 to 40 students will be rendering service.

 

Siva Kumar Reddy, III B.Sc and Yugandhar, III B.Sc were awarded Silver medals by TTD Management for the best service rendered during brahmothsavam 2005.

 

Rover Scouts extended service on Anti Leprosy Day Rally on 30-01-05.
