The Library of S V Arts
College for Men, Tirupati is one of the oldest and
richest libraries among the libraries of S V University affiliated colleges. It
was started in 1945 along with the establishment of the college with a modest
collection of over 15,000 volumes. Now the Library possesses to its credit over
80,000 books relating to Arts, Science, Humanities, Commerce, Computer Science,
Philosophy, Psychology, and Languages etc., Besides, the library has 3,000
Standard Reference Books which include Almanacs, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias,
in addition to some teaching aids like Maps, Globes, Atlas and Mathematical
tools.
Service Rendered:
The library serves the
academic and general needs of 3,000 students and the staff of different
departments. In addition, S V University has permitted research work, leading
to Ph.D degrees in some departments. The library
caters to the needs of Research Scholars and their guides. The Book Bank and
Textbook Library Wing are special facilities offered by the Library to SC, ST,
and BC students.
Staff:
The
library has one librarian, one professional staff, one semi professional staff
and 3 non-technical staff. The present Librarian is Smt.
T. Aruna Kumari.
Special features:
A rare collection of
3,000 books was presented by late Dr. K C Varadachari,
an eminent professor of Philosophy. It is a special attraction of the library,
which boasts of a large collection of books in Philosophy and Psychology. The
Directorate of Hindi, Central Government of India, has presented some books and
it is a valuable addition to the Department of Hindi. The unique feature of the
college central library is the acquisition of quite a good number of magazines,
covering all subjects taught in the college.

Unlike the other
libraries, the S V Arts College for Men’s library is kept open from

The library follows Open
Access System with Decimal classification and card catalogue.
Issue System:
Books are being issued
to staff and students through registers and on cards respectively. Every
student is issued two books for 15 days. In case of SC, ST and BC Students each
student is issued two books for one term and 15 books are issued to staff per
term.
Department libraries:
Besides Central Library,
for the convenience of staff and students the Departmental Library is also
provided for a few Departments. The heads of the department are in charge of
the books.
Acquisition of books:
The books are being
acquired for the library through special fee collection, TTD Annual Grant and
UGC and State level Grants.

newspapers, magazines and journals are subscribed.
A unique feature of the
library is the establishment of Braille Library consisting of several volumes
for the benefit of blind students of our college.
